Google will stop using Universal Analytics in 2023

Google is discontinuing its Universal Analytics. Time to switch to Matomo? or still to Google Webanalytics 4

As of July 1, 2023, Universal Analytics properties no longer process new hits.

If you're still using Universal Analytics, we recommend a timely switch to:

  • Matomo WebAnalyics

or

  • Google Analytics 4

Matomo Web Analytics

Matomo (formerly Pwik) is an open source web analytics program. It works under its own management. You determine what you do and do not want to save. You can access the database you build using this tool via a modern front-end. Many people find this more pleasant than the Google front-end.

An important advantage is that you can also set Matomo to work on the basis of your server logs. So there is no need for intensive scripts that slow down your website.

Google Analytics 4

Google Analytics 4 works according to modern techniques. However, it is still from Google. Furthermore, it is quite similar to the well-known Google Analytics that works based on the Universal Analytics technology.

There's a lot going on around AVG. That's why Google determines for you which data will and will not be registered. Google is becoming stricter and stricter in this respect. As a result, a lot of data is often not registered properly and you can't always make the right decisions. Not everyone likes that.
