Successful Magento 2 seminar

On January 22nd, the Magento 2 seminar took place. Mereveld in Utrecht, a special place at the nature reserve of the Utrecht Golf Club Ameliswaard.

Magento 2 out after five years

During the day, various talks were held by national and international Magento 2 developers, developers and trainers.

After a five-year journey, Magento 2 is out with several innovations, improvements and concerns.

What's new in Magento 2?

  • New admin interface.
  • App Marketplace.
  • Every quarter, a new Magento 2 release is scheduled.
  • There is now technical documentation.
  • Improved API.
  • Test suite is built in by default.
  • The architecture of the software has been modified to create 'Decoupled code'. This makes adding customizations a lot easier.

The Top 5 Improvements

  • Speed has been increased and speed today means conversion.
  • Integrations have been made easier.
  • Checkout is better by default and also easier to customize to customer needs. For example, a plug-in is less often needed for the checkout process.
  • New extensions are tested automatically and also checked manually by the new dedicated Magento 2 extension team.
  • Encrypted extensions are no longer accepted. This allows broad collaboration on secure and stable extensions.

Switching to Magento 2 right away?

Switching from Magento 1 to Magento 2 is quite a job. A number of things in the core of Magento are namely set up differently (and better). As a result, many plugins will have to be rebuilt to take full advantage of this new structure. It is not necessary to switch immediately; Magento 1 is still supported for almost three years.

Vicus helps your company with the migration

Vicus is well aware of the differences between Magento 1 and Magento 2. This enables Vicus to prepare and execute the migration process for your company optimally with a thorough roadmap. The account managers of Vicus are already discussing the first migration projects with customers.

And what about security?

  • Security is better, not necessarily worse than 1.
  • By default all dsts should be exchanged escaped.
  • Http/https mixed mode will really be removed in a later version.
  • Xxs (cross site scripting, a well-known hacking method) is better captured.
  • There is now a Pub directory for public files (javascript, images and css files); the rest of the code is neatly out of reach of web access.
  • The available test suites make testing easier. This allows for better testing. This results in better source code, which has a positive effect on security.

Vicus is also happy to create a multi-year plan with you to ensure that you are ready for Magento 2
