Why move from SugarCRM to Vtiger CRM

We're hearing it more and more. SugarCRM users switching to vtiger CRM. Why do they do that anyway? Surely vtiger CRM is 'only' a clone of SugarCRM?

vtiger CRM is a formidable competitor to SugarCRM. Why? Ultimately, vtiger started as a clone of SugarCRM (v 2.0); when SugarCRM was still truly Open Source and under the GPL license.

vtiger CRM is more Open Source

vtiger CRM is more of an Open Source program than Sugar has since become. At Sugar they have smelled the joy of licensing. The Open Source version is very deliberately seen as a development environment for new features that are then included in the paid version. In addition, vtiger CRM is much broader in terms of functionality. If you compare the Open Source version of SugarCRM to vtiger CRM then vtiger is the absolute winner. Open Source CRM vtiger is feature rich and thus suitable for both small and medium sized organizations. vtiger CRM is designed to manage many CRM activities and even products. The Open Source CRM software offers sales force automation, customer support & service, marketing automation, campaign management, product management, calendar, Email integration, add-ons (Outlook Plug-in, Office Plug-in, Thunderbird Extension, Customer Self-service Portal and Web Forms).

SugarCRM is more commercial

SugarCRM is one of the first in the Open Source scene to defend against use of its brand in Google. Organizations that do not pay are no longer allowed to advertise with SugarCRM as their name. Users who switch from the Sugar Open Source version to the commercial version must do so with their entire company. A mix of open and closed within one legal entity is not allowed. In short, they have gone a bit overboard in that area. More and more users are realizing this and are choosing vtiger CRM. Does that make SugarCRM a bad choice? No it is not. SugarCRM is also just a good product and also has advantages in some areas are functions better implemented or with a slightly more extensive functionality. Especially if you take the commercial version SugarCRM can be functionally more favorable for your organization. For other organizations it might not.
